Tips From a Recent Bride:

We all know that hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to making big decisions. Looking back on my wedding, there were a lot of things that I wish I had done (or things that I really enjoyed doing) to make my wedding unforgettable. Here are my top 5 tips for the brides-to-be…

1. Personalize!

Whether you buy monogrammed cocktail napkins, special personalized cake toppers, or even have a custom logo for your wedding, personalization can be key to making your wedding stand out. This is a party for the two of you, and you both should be represented! For my favors, I had monogrammed boxes with our names & wedding date on them and two chocolate truffles inside. It doesn’t have to be big and over-the-top, people will notice detail!

2.  Throw out the “traditional” wedding!

If you want a theme for your wedding, go for it. My biggest regret was playing it safe when it came to my big day. If you want to have a State Fair theme, do it! Rent carnival games, serve fair-themed foods, and hire carnival entertainers! Your guests will be talking about it for years. The more fun you have with your theme, the more memorable your wedding will be.

3.  Do Your Research

There is nothing worse than hiring a vendor that you thought was going to do a great job, and who ended up almost ruining your day. Personally, I worked with a tent company for our patio ceremony and the tent that they set up was NOT the tent that we had ordered! Go over little details with your vendors and make sure to read reviews on every one. Yelp is a great source for this, and The Knot can give you some great vendor insight as well.

4. Wedding Cake Upgrades

Wedding cakes have been changing and transforming throughout the years. Now is the time to experiment with what fun things you can do to them! Square cakes, cupcakes, mini cakes and grooms cakes – the possibilities are endless! I surprised my husband with a grooms cake in the shape of a huge green Lego block (he loves Legos).  Be creative with your cake. If you want to go a different route, try the ever-evolving candy bar, or pass out cupcakes of all flavors.

5. Hire a Planner

It doesn’t matter if you are engaged for five years or five months, wedding planning is stressful! Speaking from experience, it is 100% more enjoyable when you have someone on your team helping you out. My planner was amazing and I felt like I could relax on our wedding day because she was behind the scenes making sure everything was perfect. Do yourself a favor and invest in a wedding planner! You will not regret it.
